Hot Clouds Appears This Morning in Merapi

Yogyakarta, 18/11 (9:42 pm) Based on observations made by BPPTK on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from at 00:00 to 06:00 am shown that the eruption still on going with decreased intensity, although at 03:34 am hot clouds still came out with small intensity. Also reported, volcanic earthquakes occurred 16 times, three times the avalanches and tremors streak. Until now, merapi status remains AWAS with possible threat of hot clouds and lava.

Grayish white colored solfatara smoke high smoke gray with height 1500 meters which move toward southwest observed in the Post Ketep observed at 5:45 am. Foggy and cloudy weather shrouded Merapi’s tip this morning. In general, lava deposits continues observed in all the rivers that disgorge at the peak of Merapi. And high tendency of heavy rainfall resulted in the possibility of cold lava flood threat which lurks in all areas of the river banks. Due to that, BPPTK requested that community activities around the river banks temporarily stopped.

People are also encouraged to always follow the instructions given by the local government related to escape scenario from the danger of Mount Merapi. Until today, also reported that commercial flights at the airport Adi Sucipto still can not be done.
