Dense Fog Covering Merapi This Morning

Yogyakarta, 16/11 (09:16 GMT) BPPTK Observation Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 00:00 am until 6:00 am is stating that Merapi is still in the status AWAS with high-intensity activity and also the eruption at Mount Merapi still ongoing. Volcanic earthquakes was recorded ten times, Low Frequency quake occurred as much as one-time, four times as much lava as well as tremors still continue streak. Since yesterday the appearance of hot clouds has not being monitored at Merapi, but until now the situation in Merapi is still expressed Awas with the threat of hot clouds and lava.

From visual observations made at the Merapi observation posts, observed that the weather this morning is covered by dense fog with rain interspersed with low intensity to high. Heavy rains occurred at 04:30 am until 05: 45 am, while the drizzling rain was occurred at 05:45 am until 06:00 am. From CCTV Deles also observed that thin to thick fog continued to close the Merapi from early morning until morning.

In general, lahar deposits have occurred in all rivers that tipped at Merapi, and the threat of lava flood that might happen has become BPPTK concern due to high rainfall lately around Merapi.

BPPTK has already reduced KRB safety radius, but still asks for the entire community remain in the safe zone outside radius of 20 km from the tip of Merapi. BPPTK also asks people to always follow the direction of the local government regarding escape activities due to the eruption of Mount Merapi. issues bustling through SMS, BBM, Twitter and other social networking are expected to be dealt wisely by the community.
